Recruiting is the lifeblood of any major college athletics team, but following it closely as a fan can sometimes be difficult and can often be time consuming. We’ll try and condense all the recruiting news you can use into this bi-weekly (sometimes more) post. It’ll include updates on current commits, including stats from their high school games, as well as news on players the Badgers are still pursuing. Let’s get down to business!
New offer
- 2023 unranked WR/TE Kai Black (Urbandale, Iowa) out of Urbandale High School announced late on Sunday night that he had received an offer from Wisconsin after taking an unofficial visit to Madison over the weekend. The Iowa native also holds offers from Iowa and Iowa State.

Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing around 205 pounds, Black is listed as a WR on 247 Sports and a TE on Rivals. It is unclear where the Badgers would put him, but his height is certainly intriguing for a player on the outside.
While there are definitely some highlights where Urbandale runs the Black Is Bigger Than Everyone play there are others where he shows fairly polished route running for a high school sophomore. He is by no means a burner, but he makes up for his lack of high-end speed by using his physicality to shield defenders from the ball and make tough catches in traffic. Also, despite not being super fast, he is athletic and has good body control.
It’s never easy to get an Iowa kid out of Iowa, especially when both the Hawkeyes and Cyclones are interested, but the Badgers are in early on Black and should get the opportunity to make their case.
