Wisconsin football recruiting: UW offers 2023 4-star QB Brayden Dorman

The Badgers had a bunch of QBs in Madison at the beginning of June and it appears they’ve picked the one they like best.

Recruiting is the lifeblood of any major college athletics team, but following it closely as a fan can sometimes be difficult and can often be time consuming. We’ll try and condense all the recruiting news you can use into this bi-weekly (sometimes more) post. It’ll include updates on current commits, including stats from their high school games, as well as news on players the Badgers are still pursuing. Let’s get down to business!

New offer

  • 2023 4-star (247Sports only) QB Brayden Dorman (Colorado Springs, Colo.) out of Vista Ridge High School announced on Thursday that he received an offer from Paul Chryst and the Badgers. A bunch of top schools are interested in Dorman, but only seven have offered so far. Colorado, Colorado State, Iowa State, Kansas, Middle Tennessee State and Oregon State are the only schools that have joined Wisconsin in offering Dorman.

Dorman has prototypical size for the quarterback position, standing right around 6-foot-5 and weighing nearly 200 pounds. He is ranked as the No. 139 player and No. 9 QB in the class by 247’s standalone rankings while also being the top ranked player in the state of Colorado.

Our old pal Jake Kocorowski over at BadgerBlitz caught up with Dorman on Thursday and said that the recruit is quite excited about the offer and that Chryst, “thinks that I play in well to their system offensively and that I’d fit in really well, and he’s gonna recruit the heck out of me, he was saying.”

In five games last season, Dorman threw for 1,829 yards and 24 touchdowns according to his Hudl profile.

Dorman certainly has arm talent. He can sling it deep and also shows good touch in the red zone. He doesn’t look to be particularly mobile but he also isn’t a statue back there. I liked how he went through his progressions on a number of his highlights, which is not something that every high school quarterback can do, until he found the open target.

I’d wager that Wisconsin will be in on Dorman for a while and probably should get one of his official visits when that time comes. It’ll be interesting to see if Chryst offers any of the other QBs that camped at UW or if he’s just going to focus on Dorman and Cameron Edge out of DeMatha Catholic in Maryland. Only time will tell!
