Another defensive piece for the Wisconsin Badgers will return to the court this fall. Defensive specialist Giorgia Civita announced today that she will be back for another year for head coach Kelly Sheffield.

The graduate transfer from Wichita State took some time to warm up and get in the groove in Wisconsin’s rotation — partly because she was still healing from her third ACL tear to the same knee.
But as the season wore on, Civita became a key cog in UW’s back row and a good presence from the service line. Civita finished second on the team behind Izzy Ashburn for service aces per set with .36 and was third on the team in digs per set with 2.3.
During the NCAA Tournament, Civita played all 14 sets in Wisconsin’s run to the final four. The Italian finished with 2.71 digs per set, including posting a career high of 17 digs for the Badgers in their epic Elite Eight battle against Florida.
With super star libero Lauren Barnes also set to return, the back row for UW looks to be in safe hands. Setter Sydney Hilley also said she would return to the Badgers for the fall season for one last run at a national title in Madison.
