Today marked the last day of spring practices for the Wisconsin Badgers football team.

After a full spring to evaluate his spot in the inside linebacker rotation, redshirt freshman Malik Reed has opted to enter the transfer portal.

Reed is a former 3-star recruit out of Arizona, and one can assume that location may have played a role in his decision. Coming out of high school in the 2020 class, Reed chose to join the Badgers over other offers from Arizona, Colorado, Indiana, Nebraska, Oregon State, UCLA, and Washington State.

On film he displayed a tenacity that led to highlight reel hits that had many fans excited about his future in Madison. While that never really materialized in his lone season with the Badgers, he is a talented player that should find a new home rather easily.

The 6-foot-2 linebacker was a fairly heralded recruit that the staff was high on, but overall the Badgers have a deep group of young players on campus, and incoming at his position, that should alleviate the loss of him to the portal. If there was a position group on the defense that could withstand a transfer, inside linebacker is definitely at or near the top of the list.

Best of luck to Malik wherever he lands!
