On Monday morning, it was announced that the Nebraska Basketball Coaches Association had named future Wisconsin Badgers point guard Chucky Hepburn (Bellevue, Neb.) of Bellevue West High School the player of the year in Nebraska.

Hepburn and Bellevue West fell in the state title game to Millard North and Gonzaga commit Hunter Sallis. Both Hepburn and Sallis were named co-captains of the Class A All-State first team and the Super State First Team. 6-foot-9 junior forward Isaac Traudt (Grand Island, Neb.), another UW target, was also on both teams.
On the season, Hepburn averaged 15.9 points per game, 8.3 assists per game, 5.1 rebounds per game and 3.8 steals per game. With the roster turnover in Madison Hepburn will have a chance to step on campus and contribute immediately.
On a more somber note, Hepburn was involved in a car crash last Thursday when a suspected drunk driver hit the car that he and a friend were in. We are happy to report that Hepburn and his friend are ok, as neither suffered any injuries according to the ABC 7 Omaha article. The status of the other driver is unknown.
