Oh Honey, No…a Bucky’s 5th Quarter Fashion Blog: Baylor University

After Wisconsin stepped on the heel of North Carolina, Wisconsin now draws the Baylor Bears, the No. 1 seed in the South.

While North Carolina could have fit all of its uniforms into a carry on for the trip to Indy, Baylor definitely needed to check a bag, had it decided to bring its full complement of uniforms to the tournament.

As a reminder, we will be rating the opposing threads on a scale of oh honey, no, to YAASS QUEEN.

Oh honey, no: Obviously, this is the worst rating. If I must explain this to you, you’re probably wearing socks with sandals right now, or a brown belt with black pants, either way, oh honey, no.

Ewww: Nice try, but no.

Werk it: You brought it.

YAASS QUEEN: Best of the best. Your proverbial milkshake brings all the proverbial boys to the yard.

School: Baylor University

Mascot: Bears

Color Scheme: Green and Gold

Official Brand Sponsor: Nike

Home uniform:

Baylor’s home uniforms are white with green accents. ‘Baylor’ appears across the chest in solid green. The player’s number and ‘Baylor’ feature a modern design, one that has the look of your standard block design, but features an indent in some of the text, such as in the “2” in the photo above.

The jersey also features two wider green stripes, with a gold stripe in the middle, that start under the player’s arm and come to a point about half way down the jersey.

Their shorts feature the ‘BU’ logo on the right hip and the same slanted design on the jersey, of two wider stripes in green, with a thinner gold stripe between them.

I like this uniform, it is a clean look and the modern block design of the text is a welcomed break from the standard block design. The striping used on the jersey and the shorts is a welcome departure from the standard striping that goes all the way down the side of the uniform.

Away uniform:

Baylor’s away uniform is dark green with gold text version of the home uniform, staying uniform, with ‘Baylor’ is featured across the chest. The striping that appears on the home uniform is also present, but with a two lighter green stripes and a gold stripe in the middle.

With this uniform being a darker green color, I think it would be better to use two wider gold stripes, with the same dark green color of the uniform, in the middle. I feel like it would be a better contrast, than having green on green.

Regardless of the green on green design, I still think this is a solid uniform. Normally I like to see some sort of outline on the text on a uniform, but both the home and away versions of this design work better, without having some sort of border around the text.

Alternate uniform:

Baylor’s first of Baylor’s alternate threads is a black version of their primary uniform. Having ‘Baylor’ and the player’s number in gold, really make them pop off of the black background.

Unlike the home and away uniforms, where the collar was a stark contrast of the uniform color, the black uniform has a green collar, which is slightly harder to see.

The striping on the side of the uniform employs the same two green strips, with a gold stripe in the middle, as the home and away uniforms.

I think Baylor would be better served to have the primary color for all of its accents on this uniform be gold. It certainly would make the accents pop more, instead of having a subtle design. I have always thought that if you were to design an alternate uniform off of your primary uniform design, that it should be more in your face and should throw subtly out the window.

The second of Baylor’s alternate uniforms is the only one of their wardrobe that strays from the primary design. The uniform is grey with green and gold accents. ‘Baylor’ appears in green, outlined with gold, using the same font design as the other uniforms. The player’s number also adopts the same green with gold outline, design.

The collar of the uniform has two green stripes, with a gold inner stripe. While the slanted stripe design is gone. The same three-stripe design that is on the collar appears at the bottom of the shorts, wrapping around the entire leg and slanting up and coming to a point on the side of each leg, pointing up at the ‘BU’ logo.

I like this uniform appears to be a nod to a more classic design, while keeping the more modern text design.

Saving the best for last...

Baylor’s final alternate fit is a gold version of it’s primary design. However, instead of the school name being featured, ‘Bears,’ appears across the chest in a solid green design. A green collar, just as with the home uniform is used, while the striping on the side of the uniform features a slight alternation.

The slanted striping features two wider green stripes, with a thinner white stripe between them. I love how they decided to use a white stripe, rather than a gold one, to provide a bit more contrast in the design.

Overall, this uniform is absolute fire. The use of the school’s nickname instead of the school name is perfect and the way the entire uniform just jumps off the screen is exactly what an alternate uniform should do.
