Last week was a pretty topsy turvy week of college hoops, and the current rankings this week reflect that reality. Lots of teams — including Wisconsin, who dropped five spots after a loss to Penn State — had some wild increases or decreases. Let’s parse through those and reflect on the rankings.

Big Ten

Michigan → No. 4
Ohio State → No. 7
Iowa → No. 8
Illinois → No. 12
Wisconsin → No. 19
Purdue → No. 24

Nationwide View

  • Oklahoma is rushing up the poll after taking down not only their rival Texas Longhorns 80-79, but also the Alabama Crimson Tide in a thrilling 66-61 contest this past weekend. The Sooners jumped up 15(!!!!) places to claim the No. 9 position, but the gauntlet won’t let up as soon (haha, get it) as they might like: Oklahoma plays the No. 13 Texas Tech Raiders Monday night.
  • Ohio State being this high in the rankings in basketball too just feels mean. The Buckeyes took down Penn State and Michigan State this week to reach the No. 7 ranking in this week’s polls. Of course, as we know, the Big Ten is a very tough conference, and the Buckeyes will face the No. 8 Iowa Hawkeyes on Thursday in what should be another great matchup.

  • The Drake Bulldogs made headlines by hopping into the Top 25. Undefeated out of the Missouri Valley Conference, Drake has gone 0 to 100 real quick in the eyes of basketball fans, proving it’s far from Over to have just Gonzaga and Baylor as the only undefeated teams left in the country. While they might not have quite Started From the Bottom, the Bulldogs very much Look Alive. Whether it’s God’s Plan for Drake to stay undefeated, currently, Life is Good for the Bulldogs as they try and make the One Dance, I mean, Big Dance, at the end of the season. The Drake Bulldogs will look to Take Care of Illinois State tonight and a Back-to-Back against Valparaiso this weekend. If they can keep winning, no doubt Drake will become a Legend for mid-majors and be in line for Trophies at the end of the season.
