Recruiting is the lifeblood of any major college athletics team, but following it closely as a fan can sometimes be difficult and can often be time consuming. We’ll try and condense all the recruiting news you can use into this bi-weekly (sometimes more) post. It’ll include updates on current commits, including stats from their high school games, as well as news on players the Badgers are still pursuing. Let’s get down to business!
Weekend football visitor recap
- It wasn’t the busiest weekend for football recruits during the Michigan game, but there were still a few key targets in town to experience a Wisconsin gameday. Not to put a ranking on who was there, but...2023 4-star LB Tackett Curtis (Many, La.) was the most important visitor in attendance.
I had a great time at the Wisconsin game Saturday! The whole family enjoyed it! It was an awesome day!Thank you so much @CoachAprilUW #OnWisconsin pic.twitter.com/Cvz94SKi6m

Curtis has been up to Madison twice now and seems to be pretty high on the Badgers. This would obviously be a huge get not only because Curtis is extremely talented but because going into Louisiana and getting a blue-chip prospect isn’t really something Wisconsin does. Presumably the Badgers will get one of his official visits and hopefully find themselves accepting his commitment next summer.
2023 4-star TE Preston Zinter (Lawrence, Mass.) was also in town over the weekend. The Badgers offered him back in June and, I think, have made solid progress with him. However, his older brother plays for Michigan and all of the predictions are for him to end up with the Wolverines too.
Had an awesome weekend @BadgerFootball! Really enjoyed talking Wisconsin football with Coach Chryst, @CoachTurnerUW, and @efjohnson1972! Thanks for a great unofficial visit, can’t wait to get back on campus! pic.twitter.com/tCPC3n7tes

A pair of potential preferred walk-ons, DL Will McDonald (Hudson) and DL/OL Griffin Empey (Stoughton), were at the game on Saturday too.

Badgers make cut down list
- 2023 4-star DL Joel Starlings (Richmond, Va.) announced a top-12 at the end of last week. The Badgers were included along with Florida State, South Carolina, Georgia, Michigan, Texas A&M, Michigan State, West Virginia, Penn State, Oregon, Va. Tech and Ole Miss.
TOP1️⃣2️⃣!!! (Recruitment still 100% open but these schools are my main focus atm) pic.twitter.com/D3fuCQdMf2

Starling is 6-foot-5 and 310 pounds as a high school junior and would be a wonderful addition to Wisconsin’s defensive line. Hopefully the Badgers continue to prioritize him and then can get him on campus for a visit.
Weekend basketball visitor recap
- There were four key recruiting targets on campus for the Badgers men’s basketball team last weekend. 2024 wings Kon Knueppel (Milwaukee) and Jack Robison (Lakeville, Minn.) enjoyed themselves in Madison. 2023 wing Asa Thomas (Lake Forest, Ill.) and 2023 big man Owen Freeman (Bradley, Ill.) were also in town. All of the linked articles are behind the paywall at either 247 or Rivals but they say all of the things you’d expect. Everyone had a great time and Wisconsin is definitely a school they’re considering.
