Wisconsin football recruiting: MSU transfer CB Kalon Gervin is headed to UW

The Wisconsin Badgers have lost a number of players to the transfer portal already this season, but on Tuesday afternoon they received a commitment from the transfer portal. Former Michigan State Spartans CB Kalon Gervin announced on Twitter that he will be finishing his career at UW.

Gervin entered the portal back at the end of September along with a couple of other Spartans. Here is what The Only Colors had to say about Gervin:

Gervin, a redshirt junior, was a starter at cornerback for the first two games of the season. Chester Kimbrough replaced Gervin as the starter versus Miami, a game in which Gervin appeared but struggled, with Ronald Williams starting at the other cornerback position. In Michigan State’s overtime win versus Nebraska this past weekend, Gervin did not appear on the field for any defensive snaps, only playing special teams, as true freshman Charles Brantley was the primary reserve at cornerback (despite missing the first half of the game due to a targeting call against Miami). Gervin was the highest-ranked recruit in the class of 2018 for Michigan State, a four-star, top-200 overall recruit, out of power house Detroit Cass Tech.

Gervin stands at 5-foot-11 and weighs 190 pounds. In 23 career games (nine starts) he has 44 career tackles and six passes defended while also recovering a fumble and returning it for a touchdown.

Coming out of high school in 2018, Gervin did receive an offer from the Badgers but chose to stay close to home and attend Michigan State. Gervin was a 247 Composite 4-star and rated as the No. 188 player and No. 20 CB in the country.

Wisconsin will be losing all four of their starters in the secondary after this season so there are snaps to be had in Madison.
