Wisconsin football: UW knocks Purdue all the way out of the new rankings

The AP and Coaches polls have so little respect for the Badgers that Purdue isn’t even on their radars anymore after losing.

NCAA Football: Texas-San Antonio at Illinois Ron Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

Well, the Badgers finally won a game against a ranked team and they beat that ranked team so bad, they are no longer even receiving any votes in either poll. Suck it, Purdue. Wisconsin isn’t receiving votes either, but that’s reasonable. We’ll check back in on them for the polls after next weekend’s game against Iowa.

A lot of the top teams stayed in place this week except for ::stifles laughter:: Penn State who lost...at home...to freaking Bret Bielema and Illinois and undefeated Oklahoma State who, per tradition, lost to Iowa State.

The B1G

  • Ohio State —> No. 5 Coaches Poll, No. 5 AP Poll
  • Michigan —> No. 6 Coaches Poll, No. 6 AP Poll
  • Michigan State —> No. 7 Coaches Poll, No. 8 AP Poll
  • Iowa —> No. 10 Coaches Poll, No. 9 AP Poll
  • Penn State —> No. 17 Coaches Poll, No. 20 AP Poll
  • Wisconsin —> Unranked Coaches Poll, Unranked AP Poll

Nationwide musings

  • The Nittany Lions and the Fighting Illini played in what can genuinely be described as the Best Worst Game in NCAA history. They played nine (!!!!!!!!!) overtimes and the under still hit! The fact that Penn State is still ranked at all after this debacle is amazing in and of itself, let alone being in the top-20. Really making Wisconsin’s win over Illinois on the road look that much better!
  • My undefeated (8-0) UTSA Roadrunners are slowly but surely moving up in the polls after yet another win, this time over La. Tech. RB Sincere McCormick ran for 113 yards and three touchdowns and folks, there is still room on the bandwagon if you want a fun team to cheer for this year.
  • Oklahoma is still undefeated, but fell in the polls after struggling to put away Kansas, who the Sooners were losing to 10-0 at halftime, and 17-14 at the end of the third quarter. Things were getting so close to an upset that Kansas literally opened the gates in the third quarter and said “if you’re in town, come on down.” OU is bigly fraudulent and I can’t have them in the Playoff this year.
  • Minnesota is receiving one vote in the AP Poll. What the hell?
