Wisconsin volleyball: Sydney Hilley and Dana Rettke win Big Ten weekly awards

After a pair of dominant wins over No. 13 Purdue, a pair of Badgers were honored for their accomplishments.

The No. 1 Wisconsin Badgers volleyball team (2-0 overall and Big Ten) beat the No. 13 Purdue Boilermakers 3-0 twice over the weekend and because of these dominant performances a pair of Badgers won conference weekly awards.

Senior MB Dana Rettke was named Big Ten Player of the Week while averaging 4.17 kills per set on a .523 hitting percentage and 1.83 blocks per set. This is her ninth career Player of the Week honor. In total, she had 25 kills and 11 blocks versus the Boilermakers which led all players.

Senior S Sydney Hilley was named the Big Ten Setter of the Week, her twelfth career Setter of the Week award, after averaging 11.5 assists per set during Wisconsin’s sweeps of Purdue. As a team, the Badgers had a .387 hitting percentage over the weekend.

Sophomore MB Rylee Hinton of Illinois was named Defensive Player of the Week after posting eight blocks in both games versus the Iowa Hawkeyes and Minnesota’s freshman S Melani Shaffmaster was named Freshman of the Week after averaging 8.33 assists per set and 2.83 digs per set against Michigan State.
