The Wisconsin Badgers will welcome the nerds from Northwestern to Madison on Wednesday night.
When looking at their uniforms while getting ready to write this blog, I was surprised to see that none of the uniforms features a belt buckle for their phones, or a breast pocket on the jersey for their pencils and other assorted nerd things...but then again, those may get in the way while hooping.
As a reminder, we will be rating the opposing threads on a scale of oh honey, no, to YAASS QUEEN.
Oh honey, no: Obviously, this is the worst rating. If I must explain this to you, you’re probably wearing socks with sandals right now, or a brown belt with black pants, either way, oh honey, no.
Ewww: Nice try, but no.
Werk it: You brought it.
YAASS QUEEN: Best of the best. Your proverbial milkshake brings all the proverbial boys to the yard.
School: Northwestern University
Color Scheme: White and Purple
Official Brand Sponsor: Under Armour
Northwestern’s home uniforms are white, with ‘Northwestern’ in purple across the chest and the player’s number also appears in purple.
Purple striping appears on the shoulder of the jersey, and while it is subtle, I like the way that they use thin purple stripes, which leave a space for the white of the uniform and then have a thicker purple stripe in the middle.
The same striping appears on the shorts in a broken manner, with the Northwestern ‘N’ being featured between the stripes.
These uniforms are very aesthetically pleasing in my opinion. It probably helps their case that they are just about a carbon copy of Wisconsin’s home threads, given the common brand sponsor.
The purple accents on the white background is a great look and these nerds look fresh on their home court.
Home uniform score:
Northwestern’s away uniforms are purple, with ‘Northwestern’ across the chest in white, with the player’s number also in white.
A black stripe, outlined in white appears on the shoulders of the jersey and the shorts feature a black broken stripe, outlined in white, with the Northwestern ‘N’ being featured in between the stripes.
Just as with most Big Ten teams, their away uniform just doesn’t do it for me. The darker base is solid, but the accents in white just don’t look as good as when the same accents are featured on a white background.
Away uniform score:
Northwestern just wore these the other night against Iowa and they are pretty sick. They are a grey version of their uniform.
Just as with their other uniforms, ‘Northwestern’ appears across the chest in purple, with the player’s number in purple as well, outlined in white.
There are short purple stripes, outlined in white on the shoulders of the jersey and the same broken stripe design appears on the shorts, with the Northwestern ‘N’ being featured prominently.
These uniforms are a fresh look and a great use of an alternate color, since Northwestern’s home uniforms are white and their away uniforms are purple. I think the only thing missing would be a white border around ‘Northwestern.’
Northwestern’s second alternate uniforms are their Gothic uniforms, which in my opinion are way better than their Gothic football uniforms.
The uniform is black, with ‘Northwestern’ across the chest of the uniform in a Gothic-ish font, in gold. Their numbers also are gold. Stripes appear on the shoulder of the jersey that are gold, black, purple, black, gold, staying in line with the alternate color scheme.
The same stripes appear down the side of their shorts in a straight line, starting about a third of the way down the legs, with the Northwestern ‘N’ on both legs of the shorts, in front of the stripes. There is also a spotted design that appears on the front of each leg.
Like I said, I prefer these much more than I do the football uniforms, as they just work better as basketball uniforms. That being said, they just don’t do it for me like the other Wildcat threads.
Northwestern also used to wear a black version of their uniform, but I have yet to see them wear it this season, so I am unsure if it is still in their rotation.
