Recruiting is the lifeblood of any major college athletics team, but following it closely as a fan can sometimes be difficult and can often be time consuming. We’ll try and condense all the recruiting news you can use into this bi-weekly (or more often since we are in Uncertain Times and there aren’t actual sports going on) post. It’ll include updates on current commits, including stats from their high school games, as well as news on players the Badgers are still pursuing. Let’s get down to business!

New offer

  • 2022 4-star S Xavier Nwankpa (Altoona, Iowa) out of Southeast Polk High School announced on Tuesday afternoon that he had received an offer from the Wisconsin Badgers. Nwankpa was one of the big names that UW made sure to show love to on Tuesday, the first day that schools could initiate contact with high school juniors. According to his 247Sports profile, Iowa, Iowa State and Missouri are the top three schools in his recruitment right now. He also has offers from Florida, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and others.

Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing around 175 pounds, Nwankpa definitely has room to grow into a Power 5 safety. The 247 Composite has him rated as the No. 127 player in the nation, the No. 9 safety and the No. 2 prospect coming out of Iowa for the 2022 class. In his two years of varsity football, Nwankpa has 72.5 tackles, six picks and three touchdowns.

For however much “room to grow” he has, Nwankpa already hits like he’s a cement mixer rolling down hill whose brakes are broken. Just complete devastation on every ball carrier that he comes in contact with. The Badgers have had pretty good luck recruiting safeties recently and Nwankpa would be great to pair with fellow 2022 4-star Braelon Allen (Fond du Lac) in the defensive backfield.
