Wisconsin Badgers junior linebacker Jack Sanborn received some good news on Monday morning. The Maxwell Football Club announced their preseason watch list for the Chuck Bednarik Award and Sanborn made the cut. The award is “presented annually to the outstanding defensive player in college football.”

Sanborn will be one of the leaders of the defense and was the team’s leading tackler season, with 80, while racking up 5.5 sacks, three interceptions, one forced fumble, one fumble recovered and three passes defended. Sanborn is also on the watch list for the Lott IMPACT Trophy which “honors college football’s best in character and performance.”
Jake Hansen (LB, Illiois), George Karlaftis (DE, Purdue), Taiwan Mullen (CB, Indiana), Micah Parsons (LB, Penn State), Kwity Paye (DE, Michigan), Antjuan Simmons (LB Michigan State), Ambry Thomas (CB, Michigan) and Shaun Wade (CB, Ohio State) are the other nominees from the B1G. Ohio State’s Chase Young won the award last season, the first time since 2007 that a B1G player won it.
