Recruiting is the lifeblood of any major college athletics team, but following it closely as a fan can sometimes be difficult and can often be time consuming. We’ll try and condense all the recruiting news you can use into this bi-weekly (or more often since we are in Uncertain Times and there aren’t actual sports going on) post. It’ll include updates on current commits, including stats from their high school games, as well as news on players the Badgers are still pursuing. Let’s get down to business!
Badgers make top-6
- 2022 4-star (247Sports standalone) S Braelon Allen (Fond du Lac) out of Fond du Lac High School announced his top-6 schools on Friday afternoon and the home-state Wisconsin Badgers made the cut. His other five schools are Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Florida State and Notre Dame.

According to both Rivals and 247Sports, Florida State and Ohio State haven’t offered yet, but Rivals notes that they both are interested in Allen, along with Clemson, Alabama and a host of other B1G schools. The only school that has offered Allen that didn’t make the cut is Iowa, so, uhhhh, eat it Hawkeyes!
He is quoted as saying about FSU, “I’ve been talking with them weekly for months and they’re my dream school, so I kind of just asked if it would be ok for me to put them in my top schools and they were fine with it,”
The 6-foot-2 and 215 pound safety is the second ever 4-star defensive back to come out of the state of Wisconsin in the internet recruiting rankings era, with the first being 2021 UW commit Hunter Wohler. He is is ranked No. 116 overall player and as the No. 6 safety in the 2022 class by 247Sports.
He’s one of the biggest tests so far to the fence that Barry Alvarez built around the state and following his recruitment should be a real rollercoaster.
Commitment dates set for UW recruits
- 2022 4-star (Rivals only, 3-star on 247Sports) QB Brady Allen (Fort Branch, Ind.) out of Gibson Southern High School has set a commitment date for this coming Wednesday, July 15th.
I will be announcing my college commitment next Wednesday at 11 a.m.

The Badgers offered Allen because Jon Budmayr liked him, but all of the recruiting sites are pretty sure that he’ll end up picking Purdue. Wisconsin also has an offer out to 2022 3-star QB Devin Brown (Queen Creek, Ariz.). Allen is the No. 10 PRO QB in the class while Brown is No. 27.
UPDATE 7/10/20, 8:21 p.m. CST
- 2021 4-star EDGE prospect Yanni Karlaftis (West Lafayette, Ind.) announced that he will be making his commitment on August 9th. His final four includes the Badgers, Oregon, Purdue and Cal. If his name sounds familiar to you non-recruitniks, it’s because his older brother George Karlaftis is a standout defensive end at Purdue currently.

While he has a top-four, everyone who knows anything seems to think that it’ll come down to Purdue and Wisconsin. Allen Trieu, one of the national recruiting analysts at 247Sports, compares his style to Vince Biegel’s which is a pretty high compliment around these parts.
