Recruiting is the lifeblood of any major college athletics team, but following it closely as a fan can sometimes be difficult and can often be time consuming. We’ll try and condense all the recruiting news you can use into this bi-weekly (or more often since we are in Uncertain Times and there aren’t actual sports going on) post. It’ll include updates on current commits, including stats from their high school games, as well as news on players the Badgers are still pursuing. Let’s get down to business!
New offer
- 2022 3-star (247Sports standalone) DE Popeye Williams (Westfield, Ind.) out of Westfield High School announced on his Twitter account Monday afternoon that he received an offer from the Wisconsin Badgers. He also has offers from Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Cincinnati, Kentucky, Penn State, Toledo and Western Michigan. Purdue, Indiana and Michigan State are also considering Williams but haven’t offered yet.
After a great conversation with @CoachBostadUW I am blessed to receive an offer from The University of Wisconsin. @SWiltfong247 @TomLoy247 @Bryan_Ault @Rivals @DemetricDWarren @AllenTrieu @JoshHelmholdt @IndianaPreps @RobertMathis98 @gridiron_gang_ @ShamrockFB @spadeditz pic.twitter.com/CbtZ1w2JlR

Standing at 6-foot-3 and 225 pounds has been mini-blowing up over the past week, receiving his first Power 5 offers all since June 23rd (PSU, UK, UW). 247Sports has him rated as the No. 33 wide defensive end and the No. 8 player in the state of Indiana for the 2022 class.
Williams is quick, both off the line of scrimmage and when chasing down a ball carrier, and appears strong for his size. He is able to bully offensive linemen that are bigger than him with an array of pass rushing moves and the occasional “brute strength toss the guy aside” move.
Based on his tape and the recent trio of offers, it would seem like Williams is on his way to a ratings boost as well as a ton more offers coming his way. The Badgers getting in early is good, but we’ll see how they play this one.
