Recruiting is the lifeblood of any major college athletics team, but following it closely as a fan can sometimes be difficult and can often be time consuming. We’ll try and condense all the recruiting news you can use into this bi-weekly (or more often since we are in Uncertain Times and there aren’t actual sports going on) post. It’ll include updates on current commits, including stats from their high school games, as well as news on players the Badgers are still pursuing. Let’s get down to business!
New offer
- 2022 3-star (Rivals only) TE Holden Staes (Atlanta, Ga.) out of The Westminster School received an offer from the Wisconsin Badgers and coach Mickey Turner on Tuesday. In the last month alone, Staes has received offers from Auburn, Alabama, Florida State and Ohio State. Georgia, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, North Carolina, Oregon, Penn State, Southern Cal and many others have also offered Staes.

Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 220 pounds, Staes is unrated by 247Sports but has a 5.7 rating on Rivals. He is a punishing blocker that appears to have a bit of a mean streak. If you are being blocked by him, you know it, and it won’t stop until the whistle blows. His ability to fight through coverage to make contested catches is impressive as is his ability to find open spaces in the defense to give his quarterback a receiving option. His route running doesn’t seem precise, but that’s obviously something that you can work on in practice.
Staes has a stacked offer list already, but Wisconsin has been going head to head against blue bloods for tight ends recently and winning so keep his name on your radar when 2022 recruiting heats up.
