Wisconsin football recruiting: new offer and UW makes a top-8 [UPDATE]

Recruiting is the lifeblood of any major college athletics team, but following it closely as a fan can sometimes be difficult and can often be time consuming. We’ll try and condense all the recruiting news you can use into this bi-weekly (or more often since we are in Uncertain Times and there aren’t actual sports going on) post. It’ll include updates on current commits, including stats from their high school games, as well as news on players the Badgers are still pursuing. Let’s get down to business!

New offer

  • 2021 3-star WR Cameron Bonner (Houston, Texas) out of St. Thomas High School received an offer earlier this week from Alvis Whitted and Paul Chryst to play for the Wisconsin Badgers. Bonner has 15 offers, but 247Sports and Rivals have Baylor in the lead for his services. Houston, Illinois, Pitt, Utah, Virginia Tech and others have also offered Bonner.

Standing around 6-foot and weighing about 175 pounds, Bonner is an extremely fast wideout. His Hudl page notes that he runs a 4.41 40-yard dash and a 10.9 100-meter dash. He is rated as the No. 636 player in the country, No. 103 WR in the country and No. 90 player in Texas by the 247 Composite. He caught 50 receptions for 1,255 yards and 12 touchdowns last year.

Watching these highlights it is impressive to see how Bonner just outruns every player on the defense in almost every clip. He returns kicks, along with his regular duties as a WR, and I don’t know why any team kicks to St. Thomas. He has good hands too. His offer list isn’t unbeatable, so hopefully Wisconsin isn’t too late to the party.

Badgers make top-8

  • 3-star 2021 DE Logan Fano (Spanish Fork, Utah) out of Timpview High School recently made a cut to his list of schools and the Badgers made his top-8. The other seven schools are Utah, Oklahoma, Michigan, Nebraska, Washington, BYU and Virginia.

Fano is 6-foot-4 and weighs 230 pounds and it seems like Utah and Washington are the current leaders for him.

UPDATE: 6/19/20, 7:24 p.m. CST: 2021 4-star TE Terrance Ferguson (Littleton, Colo.) will be announcing his college decision next Friday. He trimmed his list down to 10 teams, which included the Badgers, back at the end of March and then Wisconsin made his next cut when he chopped his list in half at the end of May.

Most of the recruiting types that know things seem to think that Ferguson is headed to Oregon, but if something shocking happens we’ll have coverage for you right here on Bucky’s 5th Quarter.
