Wisconsin football recruiting: UW offers a Florida CB in the 2023 class

Wait...2023?!? Sharif Denson of Jacksonville is good enough to get an early offer.

Recruiting is the lifeblood of any major college athletics team, but following it closely as a fan can sometimes be difficult and can often be time consuming. We’ll try and condense all the recruiting news you can use into this bi-weekly (or more often since we are in Uncertain Times and there aren’t actual sports going on) post. It’ll include updates on current commits, including stats from their high school games, as well as news on players the Badgers are still pursuing. Let’s get down to business!

New offer

  • 2023 unranked CB Sharif Denson (Jacksonville, Fla.) out of Bartram Trail High School received an offer from Paul Chryst and the Wisconsin Badgers on Wednesday afternoon according to his Twitter account. The rising sophomore already has 19 offers including from Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Indiana, Iowa State, Kentucky, Miami (Fla.), Michigan State, Oklahoma, Penn State, Virginia and others.

Standing at 5-foot-10 and weighing around 160 pounds, Denson obviously will need to fill out more before he’s ready for football in a Power 5 conference. Luckily, he has three more years to do so. Watching his film from his freshman year, Denson does not appear out of place despite being the youngest player on the field.

He has good instincts and is fast, both in recovery (there is a clip where he bites on the first part of a double move but is able to recover and prevent a completion) and in straight ahead speed when tackling a ball carrier. He isn’t afraid to stick his face into the pile and stop a runner either, which I always love to see in a cornerback.

Obviously there is a long way to go in Denson’s recruitment, but he is definitely a name to keep an eye on moving forward.
