Wisconsin video games recruiting: Badgers receive first commitment in virtual 2020 class

In-state 4-star ATH, D.J. Bailey is now a Badger.

Recruiting is the lifeblood of any major college athletics team, but following it closely as a fan can sometimes be difficult and can often be time consuming. We’ll try and condense all the fake recruiting news you can use into this bi-weekly (or more often since we are in Uncertain Times and there aren’t actual sports going on) post. It’ll include updates on current commits, including stats from their high school games, as well as news on players the Badgers are still pursuing. Let’s get down to virtual business!

New commit

  • 2020 4-star ATH D.J. Bailey (Appleton) out of Appleton East High School announced his commitment to the Wisconsin Badgers after their big win over the Northwestern Wildcats. Bailey was being recruited heavily by Oregon, and his decision came down to those two schools. Stanford, Rutgers and South Carolina were the rest of his top-five, but hadn’t really been considered for some time.

Bailey is a 6-foot and 178 pound athlete that played cornerback, wide receiver and quarterback for East. Quite frankly, he’s the kind of player that the state of Wisconsin doesn’t produce very often and it was extremely important for Paul Chryst to keep the fence around the state erect and Bailey inside of it.

Bailey threw for 1,762 yards, 18 touchdowns and three interceptions as a QB while catching 52 passes for 980 yards and nine touchdowns as a wide receiver. He also ran for over 500 yards and scored four TDs on the ground as QB. He picked off six passes as a corner and made 49 tackles, including two sacks. He was named first-team all conference at both cornerback and wide receiver and second-team all conference as quarterback. Truly a special player.

As far as where he’ll play once he gets to Madison, we aren’t quite sure. Paul Chryst can’t comment on players until they’ve signed their letter of intent and when reached for comment, Bailey said “I’m just happy to have my recruitment settled and over with. I’ll play wherever coach Chryst wants me to.”
