Recruiting is the lifeblood of any major college athletics team, but following it closely as a fan can sometimes be difficult and can often be time consuming. We’ll try and condense all the recruiting news you can use into this bi-weekly (or more often since we are in Uncertain Times and there aren’t actual sports going on) post. It’ll include updates on current commits, including stats from their high school games, as well as news on players the Badgers are still pursuing. Let’s get down to business!
- 2022 4-star (247 standalone) RB/ATH Michael Allen (Greenville, N.C.) out of J.H. Rose High School was offered a scholarship by running backs coach John Settle and the Wisconsin Badgers on Friday according to Allen’s Twitter account. Allen currently has seven offers which, outside of Wisconsin’s, are from Appalachian State, East Carolina, North Carolina, North Carolina State, South Carolina and Tennessee.
Truly honored and blessed to receive an offer from the University of Wisconsin. Thank you @Coachjset23 @BadgerFootball pic.twitter.com/Kx2Exiaf9R— Michael Allen (@MichaelAllen8_) May 15, 2020
Allen is either 5-foot-9 or 5-foot-10, depending on which recruiting site you prefer, and weighs around 185 pounds. He is rated as the No. 121 player in the country, the No. 10 ATH and the No. 5 player in North Carolina by 247 Sports. Allen totaled 1,427 all purpose yards last season (906 rushing) and 17 touchdowns (11 rushing, five receiving, one kick return), according to MaxPreps.
Despite only being a sophomore last season, Allen shows a patience that many older backs do not possess. He also changes direction on a dime, can return kicks and split out wide to play receiver. Probably why he’s listed as an “ATH” along with being a RB.
Settle, who was born in and attended college in North Carolina, has a built in connection with players from this area and since the Badgers were one of the earlier teams to offer, they should be in consideration for an official visit.
