Recruiting is the lifeblood of any major college athletics team, but following it closely as a fan can sometimes be difficult and can often be time consuming. We’ll try and condense all the recruiting news you can use into this bi-weekly (or more often since we are in Uncertain Times and there aren’t actual sports going on) post. It’ll include updates on current commits, including stats from their high school games, as well as news on players the Badgers are still pursuing. Let’s get down to business!
New offer
- 2022 4-star (247Sports standalone) ATH/RB/OLB Omarion Hampton (Clayton, N.C.) out of Cleveland High School has received an offer from running backs coach John Settle and the Wisconsin Badgers according to his Twitter account. Hampton has 14 offers, according to 247, including Arkansas, Duke, Michigan, Penn State, Miami (Fla.), UNC, South Carolina, Virginia Tech and others.

The 6-foot and 210 pound tailback is rated the No. 12 running back in the country, the No. 4 player in North Carolina and the No. 107 overall player by 247Sports. According to MaxPreps, Hampton rushed for ::double checks number because it’s late:: 2,402 yards (an average of 171.6 yards per game) and 35 touchdowns last season. He added 205 yards receiving and four TDs for good measure.
Hampton is listed as having run a 4.47 40-yard dash on his Hudl page, and who knows the veracity of that, but he looks fast on tape. More importantly, he looks like he runs violently on tape. There are multiple highlights where he invites contact while finishing a run and then doles out more punishment than he takes. Probably not a key trait for a long career, but it is a trait that can be used for other things, if harnessed.
Hampton seems to be blowing up a bit as the Badgers were the seventh team to offer him in the past week, but the offer list isn’t unbeatable and one would think that Settle, who has ties to North Carolina, might be able to work some magic and get Hampton on campus.
