Recruiting is the lifeblood of any major college athletics team, but following it closely as a fan can sometimes be difficult and can often be time consuming. We’ll try and condense all the recruiting news you can use into this bi-weekly (or more often since we are in Uncertain Times and there aren’t actual sports going on) post. It’ll include updates on current commits, including stats from their high school games, as well as news on players the Badgers are still pursuing. Let’s get down to business!
New offer
- 2022 3-star (247 standalone) WR Omar Cooper (Indianapolis, Ind.) out of Lawrence North High School received an offer from the Wisconsin Badgers and wide receivers coach Alvis Whitted. Cooper currently has offers from Purdue, Indiana, West Virginia, Cincinnati, Central Michigan, Western Michigan, Kent State and Toledo.
Thankful and Blessed to say that I have received The University of Wisconsin ! Thanks to @CoachBostadUW and the rest of @BadgerFootball!!#GoBadgers #AGTG pic.twitter.com/gRekhYTKQ9
— Omar Cooper Jr (@TheOmarCooper) May 13, 2020
The 6-foot-1 and 160 pound wideout is rated as the No. 42 WR in the 2022 class by 247Sports and the No. 5 player in the state of Indiana. Cooper had 53 catches for 1,024 yards and 13 touchdowns as a sophomore, according to his Hudl tape.
While Cooper has a slender build, he proves difficult to tackle both by being fast and also by being tough. He also looks like a willing blocker, an important quality for any Wisconsin WR to have, and like he has good hands.
As Cooper gets bigger he should become an even more sought after prospect. Right now, the Badgers are far and away his best offer, but he may be interested in staying close to home.
