2021 RB Antwan Roberts commits to UW

The 3-star Tennessee native joins a loaded Badgers 2021 class.

The Wisconsin Badgers football program received some good news late on Tuesday morning when 2021 3-star RB Antwan Roberts (Hendersonville, Tenn.) of Pope John Paul II High School announced his commitment via his Twitter account.

Roberts is the tenth member, and third running back, of the Badgers 2021 class, which ranks in the top-10 of both Rivals and 247 Sports overall rankings. Wisconsin beat out Cincinnati, Duke, Louisville, Kentucky, Memphis, Missouri and Vanderbilt for Roberts, per Rivals. Tennessee and North Carolina also showed some interest, but haven’t offered yet.

Standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 190 pounds Roberts, like many players entering the B1G, could stand to redshirt a year and spend some time in the weight room. Roberts has excellent vision and good patience for a young tailback. He is also fast. Not, like, sprinter fast but he can outrun people.

During his sophomore season MaxPreps notes that he ran for 935 yards and nine scores in eight games while also scoring twice through the air on 12 catches for 214 yards. I couldn’t find his junior year stats, but judging by his Hudl tape, he scored plenty. He also returned some kicks which will be a valuable skill once he arrives in Madison.

Roberts is rated as the No. 942 player in the country, the No. 76 running back and the No. 30 player in Tennessee by the 247 Composite. In the standalone 247 ratings, he is the No. 69 RB (nice) and the No. 31 player in the state. Rivals has him rated as the No. 23 player in the Volunteer State.

One interesting thing to mention again: this is the third running back in the 2021 class.

I don’t pretend to know any insider information but one would have to guess that someone is either switching positions or isn’t 100% committed to the Badgers.
