Wisconsin football recruiting: 2021 QB commit Deacon Hill named to Polynesian Bowl roster

Hill, who is half Samoan, will play in the 2021 version of this high school all-star game.

Recruiting is the lifeblood of any major college athletics team, but following it closely as a fan can sometimes be difficult and can often be time consuming. We’ll try and condense all the recruiting news you can use into this bi-weekly post. It’ll include updates on current commits, including stats from their high school games, as well as news on players the Badgers are still pursuing. Let’s get down to business!

Polynesian Bowl pick

  • It as announced on Monday morning that 2021 3-star QB Deacon Hill (Santa Barbara, Calif.) of Santa Barbara High School will be representing himself, the Dons and the Wisconsin Badgers in the 2021 Polynesian Bowl in Honolulu, Hawaii in January.

This is a big honor for Hill, not only as a reward for being an excellent football player, but because of where his father is from. He told Brandon Huffman of 247Sports that, “I’m super excited because I’m half Samoan and my dad and I always talk about the culture but it will finally be super cool to be around it 24/7 for a week.”

The roster for the Polynesian Bowl is already loaded with some high-end talent like No. 2 player in the class of 2021 DT J.T. Tuimoloau and the top two pro-style QBs in the class, Sam Huard (committed to Washington) and J.J. McCarthy (committed to Michigan). It will be great for Hill, the No. 34 pro-style QB in the class, to get to stack himself up with the best of the best.

Hill is the only QB the Badgers plan on taking in the 2021 class and, after identifying him early, accolades like this are making head coach Paul Chryst and quarterbacks coach Jon Budmayr look pretty danged smart.
