Recruiting is the lifeblood of any major college athletics team, but following it closely as a fan can sometimes be difficult and can often be time consuming. We’ll try and condense all the recruiting news you can use into this bi-weekly post. It’ll include updates on current commits, including stats from their high school games, as well as news on players the Badgers are still pursuing. Let’s get down to business!
New offer
- 2021 3-star (as rated by Rivals) OLB Martez Thrower (Rochelle, Ga.) out of Wilcox County High School received an offer from the Badgers earlier this week. You’d think with a last name like that his parents would have pushed to make him a QB or a starting pitcher or something, but it’s probably smart that he plays LB because he’s pretty good.

Thrower has offers from Colorado, Georgia Tech, Tennessee, Kentucky, Troy Georgia State and Georgia Southern. Rivals notes that Mississippi State, Tulane and Nebraska have also offered him. He is also receiving interest from Auburn, Florida State and South Carolina according to 247 Sports.
This may seem like a weird way to describe a linebacker, but Thrower is patient, like a running back, when diagnosing what the offense is doing. He waits until the last second to make a decision and then attacks, it’s pretty impressive.
Wisconsin’s linebacker recruiting has been basically unimpeachable over the past few years so any time they make an offer at that position I’m excited about that player’s potential. Hopefully Paul Chryst and Jim Leonhard can get him up on campus because that always seems to shock and impress players from the south who think Wisconsin is just one big farm.
Current commit still receiving offers
- 2021 4-star S Hunter Wohler (Muskego) who has verbally committed to the Badgers is still, obviously, going to receive offers up until he actually signs with Wisconsin. Stanford is the latest school to hope on the Wohler Bandwagon and they won’t be the last. There doesn’t seem to be anything that would lead us to believe that Wohler is wavering in his commitment, but these are always good to keep an eye on.

Newest Badgers on BTN
- New Wisconsin Badgers, and early signing day participants, TE Cole Dakovich and OL Trey Wedig were in Chicago on National Signing Day to talk about why they chose the Badgers. Fun to hear exactly why these guys like Madison and Wisconsin so much.
