Wisconsin men’s basketball: UW falls in AP Poll after losing to Marquette

The Badgers had the biggest fall of the week, but remain in the top-15.

Tom Lynn

We’re now two weeks into the college basketball season and this week the biggest change in the AP Poll came from the Wisconsin Badgers. After losing to Marquette 67-65 on a last second buzzer beater, the Badgers dropped from the No. 4 to No. 13.

Obviously, it’s still very early in the season, but let’s look at what we can figure out from the latest AP Poll.

Big Ten

Iowa → No. 3
Michigan State → No. 4
Illinois → No. 6
Wisconsin → No. 13
Rutgers → No. 21
Ohio State → No. 22

Nationwide View

  • It looks like early in the season, Illinois is going to be a big test for ranking the teams in the top 10 or so. After a 82-69 loss to No. 2 Baylor, the Illini will face the No. 8 Duke Blue Devils on Tuesday.
  • Speaking of big early season contests, lots of good matchups on Tuesday and Wednesday. With the ACC Big Ten Challenge this week, No. 16 UNC will play No. 3 Iowa (along with the aforementioned Duke-Illinois game), Ohio State plays Notre Dame and MSU will travel to Charlottesville to take on the Virginia Cavaliers. Plus, No. 8 Creighton plays No. 5 Kansas.
  • Kentucky is 1-3 with a brutal 79-62 loss to the unranked Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. They dropped out of the Top 25 for what seems like the first time in millennia, and I gotta assume they’re one of the biggest surprises early on.

New Teams

AP Poll → No. 24 San Diego State, No. 25 Louisville (just in time to face the Badgers, eventually, hopefully)

Drop Outs

AP Poll → Kentucky, Oregon
