Oh Honey, No… a Bucky’s 5th Quarter Fashion Blog: Indiana University

Hoosier? I barely know her!

This weekend, the basketball school, turned football school comes to town... that’s right, the fighting Bobby Knights of Indiana.

Yet another school that wears red and white, how original...

As a reminder, we will be rating the opposing threads on a scale of oh honey, no, to YAASS QUEEN.

Oh honey, no: Obviously, this is the worst rating. If I must explain this to you, you’re probably wearing socks with sandals right now, or a brown belt with black pants, either way, oh honey, no.

Ewww: Nice try, but no.

Werk it: You brought it.

YAASS QUEEN: Best of the best. Your proverbial milkshake brings all the proverbial boys to the yard.

School: Indiana University

Mascot: Hoosiers

Color Scheme: Crimson and Cream

Official Brand Sponsor: Adidas

Helmet:

Indiana’s helmet is crimson with two white stripes, a white face mask and a white ‘IU’ logo. The helmet also has sort of a chrome look to it, but in a subtle way.

The look is a classic one and a solid look at that. The chrome finish adds to the look and it also even looks a bit matte, which is always a plus.

The Hoosiers have worn a multitude of helmets over the years and for the sake of time, I will highlight a couple of them.

While some have been bangers, others have fallen short.

One that fell short in my opinion was this one, a white helmet, with ‘Indiana’ in script text and a red design on the front of the helmet. I think had it been a white helmet with the script text alone, I think it would have worked better, but the red design kind of ruins it for me.

However, Indiana has knocked it out of the park with two of their alternate helmets, such as their state flag helmet.

The design is subtle and really looks like it belongs on a helmet. The white accents of the logo, and the face mask, also play off the crimson helmet very well and makes the helmet look very crisp.

The ultimate helmet that Indiana has worn is their chrome helmet. The helmet looks like a peppermint with the way that it is striped and the reflectivity of the helmet… oh boy.

This helmet was one of five new helmets that Indiana announced prior to the start of the 2013 season.

Uniform:

COLLEGE FOOTBALL: NOV 02 Northwestern at Indiana Photo by James Black/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images

The Hoosiers home threads for the 2020 season are red, with ‘Indiana’ across the chest in white, with white letters and numbers. The uniform also features a white collar.

The road uniform is basically the opposite - a white uniform with ‘Indiana’ in red across the chest with red letters and numbers and a red collar.

They’re your basic run of the mill uniforms, no real splash to them, very basic.

Just like with Northwestern, I don’t really understand the need to inscribe the school name across the front of the uniform, but maybe because Indiana was more of a basketball school prior to this season, they decided to mirror the basketball uniform? I don’t know.

The jerseys also feature block numbers, which is so last season... round them edges, Hoosiers.

They paired their uniforms with red pants and white pants. At home they usually will wear white pants, while on the road, they have worn both red and white pants this season. Personally, I think the red pants are a better look on the road, because it balances out the ensemble more.

I would also like to see some piping on the pants, such as some red stripes on the white pants and white stripes on the red pants.

This past weekend, Indiana broke away from tradition to wear a special uniform, honoring those that have served.

Originally they were going to wear the Salute to Service threads against Michigan, but there was a lack of contrast with the Michigan uniforms.

The uniforms are sick. They are camouflage with ‘Indiana’ across the chest in red, with red numbers, outlined in white.

The sleeves of the uniform feature the American Flag and the shoulder of the uniform features nine “battle” stars.

The helmet also features names of the crew members of the WWII battleship USS Indiana BB 58, which is a sick detail that is hard to see unless you get a close look.

In my opinion, sometimes the best part of special uniforms is the small details that cannot be seen on TV unless you get a very close look. The uniform clearly worked, as Maryland couldn’t see them as well and Indiana won 27-11.

Uniform Scores:

Home and Away: Ewww. The uniforms are just alright... nothing too exciting.
