Over the course of the last few months we’ve had installments that took a deep dive into each athlete on the Wisconsin football and men’s basketball team. Every day we had a new player that took the spotlight and we got to know him a little bit better. We learned about their background, their recruitment and what made them the special athletes they are today.
Now, with both of those series wrapped up, we decided to take a look at the people behind each of those posts. Yes, that’s right, the humble and handsome blogger. In this series you’ll get to know the keyboard warriors that give you sports opinions, beer takes, mascot rankings and reality show recaps. It’s not an easy job, or a hard one, but someone has to do it. (Editor’s note: do we?)

The stats

Tell us about yourself….
Favorite article/accomplishment with B5Q? I really enjoyed writing this article which actually required I do some real reporting and interviewing and not just shout in all caps about butts or whatever. It was a really enlightening piece on why in-state recruiting was so weird when Gary Andersen was the coach and how Paul Chryst was just the man to fix it.
Favorite Wisconsin sports memory? Wisconsin beating Ohio State in 2003 (my freshman year) when they were defending national champions and on something like an 18-game winning streak; the Wisconsin men’s hockey team beating Cornell, in triple OT, in the 2006 NCAA Tournament on a Jack Skille goal to go the Frozen Four; watching the Wisconsin/Oregon 2014 NCAA Tournament game at Will’s Northwoods in Chicago with a buddy of mine from high school (who went to Skidmore, major props if you’ve heard of that school) and was standing on his chair leading cheers during the second half; going to the Rose Bowl even though we lost to TCU; attending the 2015 men’s basketball B1G Title game where UW shut out MSU in OT to win; I could keep going but I’ll stop.
Go to drink of choice? Most of you know that I was a bartender for 13 years, with the last seven or so being at fancier cocktail spots. So, I know how to make most any drink you want but when I’m reaching for something to drink at the end of the day it will 95 times out of 100 be beer. I also like French rose and Italian sweet vermouth on the rocks. If I have people over and they want cocktails, I’m happy to make/drink them...but I’m a beer guy at heart. You don’t have the time, nor the patience, to read all of the beers I like so know this: I like most of them.
You get one album to listen to for the rest of your life, what are you choosing and why? Ugh, what an impossible question! Currently I’m listening to Run the Jewels 4, because it bangs hard, Taylor Swift’s Folklore, because it is the perfect fall album, and Spanish Love Songs’ Brave Faces Everywhere, because I’m a sucker for good ol’ fashioned pop punk. Oh! The new Killers album is good too.
Favorite book? Most of the books I read are cocktail related, but per a recommendation from Scott Hines (aka Action Cookbook on Twitter) I’m reading Hanif Abdurraqib’s “They Can’t Kill Us Until They Kill Us” which is a series of essays on music, sports and culture and it is quite good.
Movie? Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Television show? I don’t have HBO, so I haven’t seen any of those shows, but my favorite TV show is either It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia or Real Housewives of New York. I also like 30 Rock, Community and any of the Arrowverse super hero shows.

Hypotheticals?
If you could know the truth behind any one secret or mystery, what would it be?
I want to be vindicated in my belief that Stevie Wonder can see. He can.
If aliens took over and humans were put into zoos, what would you want in your zoo enclosure?
A PS5 and FIFA and good internet so I can lose to 10-year old English pricks who are mean to me.
What would be the first few things you would try if you found out you were completely impervious to physical harm?
Football! I never got to play in high school because of a major surgery and somehow Barry Alvarez never picked me out at Gordon Commons to walk-on to the team. It looks fun and would be way more fun if I knew I wasn’t going to get hurt. Also, I’d want to do any of the balcony dives that New Jack did while in ECW.
