On Monday morning, Cincinnati (Roger Bacon) defensive end recruit James Thompson Jr. announced that he verbally committed to the Wisconsin Badgers by telling Badger247 writer Evan Flood.

Thompson announced that he had verbally committed late on Monday night via his Twitter account.

Rated a three-star prospect by 247Sports and Rivals, the 6-foot-5.5-inch Thompson Jr. has significantly bulked up since his junior season at Roger Beacon high school. The defensive end was listed at 230 pounds just one season ago, but now he is up to 255 pounds.

The DE’s offer sheet includes Iowa State and Navy, and he also garnered interest from Michigan State, Northwestern, Purdue and Indiana.

His Hudl highlights show that Thompson Jr. brings an explosive first step on the defensive side. Now that he has put on another 25 pounds of muscle, the Badgers have another recruit with tremendous upside. You will also notice that Thompson Jr. played both ways in high school, as he split time between defensive end and right tackle.

Thompson Jr. announced receiving his offer on July 30.

He is the 15th known verbal commit to the Badgers 2020 class and joins Aaron Witt and Cade McDonald as defensive end commits.
