Welcome to The Field House Chronicles, where we look at the goings on of the wide world of Badger sports. We almost called it “The Field House / Kohl / LaBahn / Goodman / Porter / McClimon / Nielson / URidge Chronicles,” but it maxes out the character limit. Take a look as we highlight the happenings of UW sports that are not football or men’s basketball.

No. 4 Volleyball

After a solid week that landed Sydney Hilley Big Ten Setter of the Week honors and Dana Rettke Big Ten Player of the Week honors, the volleyball team plays stiffer competition in the HotelRED Invitational tonight and tomorrow.

Wisconsin (2-0) starts tonight (Thursday) with a 7 p.m. match with No. 11 Marquette (3-0). The Badgers will return Friday at 8 p.m. to take on No. 17 Baylor (2-0).

Games will be held at the UW Field House. The Marquette game will air on Fox Sports 1 and the Baylor game will air on the Big Ten Network. Jon Arias, a.k.a. the best damn volleyball play-by-play guy, will have the call for both games on 100.9 FM / 1070 AM.

No. 16 Women’s Soccer

The Badgers (3-1-0) will look to build on its strong start to the season this weekend. However, it probably also wants to get one or two “easy” wins after each of the first four games of the year have gone down to the wire.

Up first is a road game against Loyola-Chicago tonight at 7 p.m., and then the Badgers return home Sunday at 1 p.m. to take on UW-Green Bay.

Men’s Soccer

The men have a pair of road games this weekend starting with a 5 p.m. kickoff in Ohio against Bowling Green. The road trip continues Sunday in Evanston, Ill. as the Badgers continue the season with a noon match versus Lehigh.

Oh, and men’s soccer is also hiring! Remember, technically to be a student worker you need to be a student somewhere. So go audit a basket-weaving class and apply!

Men’s Golf

Who doesn’t love a little fall golf? Well, the men’s golf team begins the season by hosting the Badger Invitational at University Ridge. The three-day, 54 hole tournament begins Sunday.

The top Badgers to watch, according to Big Ten coaches, are Sam Anderson, Griffin Barela, and Pete Kuhl.

Cross Country

Both the men’s and women’s cross country teams begin their respective seasons this Friday at the Badger Classic at the Zimmer Championship Course. The men, who will vy for its 50th (!!!) Big Ten title this season, will run the 8k. The women, lead by first-year head coach Mackenzie Wartenberger, will compete in a 5k.
