Wisconsin volleyball: Dana Rettke and Sydney Hilley win weekly B1G awards

Rettke was named player of the week while Hilley was chosen as setter of the week.

The Big Ten announced their first weekly awards of the volleyball season and the Badgers took home half of them. After starting off the year with two sweeps in the B1G/ACC Challenge, junior middle blocker Dana Rettke was named player of the week and junior setter Sydney Hilley was chose as setter of the week.

Rettke averaged 5.83 kills per set while hitting .534 in the weekend’s games against UNC and Florida State. She notched 17 kills against FSU and upped her total to 18 against against UNC. She also added four digs, four blocks and two assists in the games. Her .727 hitting percentage against the Tar Heels is a crazy high number and definitely helped her to her fifth career B1G player of the week award.

Hilley had 41 assists versus the Tar Heels and a measly 37 against FSU to average 13 assists per set. She added six kills against North Carolina and a career-high six blocks against the Seminoles. Hilley also notched eight digs in the pair of opening games. This is her sixth career setter of the week award.

Unrelated to the Badgers, but the freshman of the week is named Kenzie Knuckles (Nebraska) and I can’t think of a more perfect name for, well, anything than that.

The Badgers open up the home portion of their schedule against No. 11 Marquette on Thursday at 7 p.m. CT at the Field House (tickets still available according to UWBadgers.com). The game will also be aired on FS1.
