An interview with Wisconsin linebacker Mike Maskalunas

What has the walk-on experience been like for the junior linebacker?

After making the two-deep at inside linebacker, junior linebacker Mike Maskalunas started off the 2019 season with a bang against South Florida.

On Monday, Bucky’s 5th Quarter had the chance to speak with him about the first game and his experience as a walk-on.

Normally seen with a neck roll for both safety and intimidation on the football field, he is a valuable asset to the football team both on defense and in special teams. If you need a refresher on the hit we discussed in the video it can be seen below.

(Editor’s note: GOODNESS GRACIOUS!)

Maskalunas leads the team with six total tackles, five of which were solo, and will continue to serve as the primary backup to Chris Orr, assuming Orr’s injury isn’t serious. Either way, Maskalunas may be in line to see some more snaps this week.
