Wisconsin volleyball: Badgers stay at No. 9 in AVCA poll

There is a new No. 1 team in the nation though!

The Wisconsin Badgers volleyball team (4-2) remained at No. 9 in this week’s AVCA coaches poll. The Badgers traveled to South Carolina over the weekend and swept both USC and Clemson to win the Clemson Invitational. Dana Rettke was named MVP of the tournament and Molly Haggerty and Izzy Ashburn joined Rettke on the Clemson Invitational All-Tournament team.

There is a new No. 1 team in the nation as undefeated Nebraska jumped over Stanford and assumed the top spot in the nation. As luck would have it, those two teams will play each other this week and we can just settle this on the court.

As far as other schools in the Big Ten are concerned, Penn State sits at No. 4, Minnesota is up one spot to No. 7, our Badgers are at No. 9, Illinois (despite having a losing record) remained in the poll at No. 19 and Purdue slid up to No. 21.

Michigan is just outside the rankings at No. 26, after being ranked No. 24 last week, and Indiana was also receiving votes as No. 32. The two teams that have beaten Wisconsin this year, Baylor and Marquette, sit at No. 5 and No. 8 respectively.

The Badgers have a home and home series with No. 10 Washington this week to decide who the real UW is. The first leg is in Madison at the Field House on Thursday night at 8 p.m. CT on FS1, while the return trip is in Seattle on Saturday night, also at 8 p.m. CT, but on the Pac-12 Network.
