B5Q Roundtable: what did you do on your bye week?

Bob ate brats, Tyler won money, Belz likes pumpkin beers and Ryan saw Ryan Braun sock dingers. Good weekend y’all!

Thank goodness it’s finally game week again, and Michigan game week to boot, but let’s take one last look at how a weekend sans Badgers football went for our staff. Pretty well from the looks out it.

What did you do with your weekend sans Badger football?

Belz: Worked on some house stuff and spent time with family and friends. Was able to watch a decent amount of football as well.

Bob: Lots of stuff. I took care of a maintenance request at my investment property. I’m in the middle of a bathroom remodel, but I didn’t make any progress there unfortunately. I did make progress on my coursework, and I was able to take care of some projects for church. And being the beginning of the semester at my 9-5, I’ve been trying to stay on top of emails so Monday isn’t a nightmare. So I’ve been answering emails this weekend too.

(Please don’t email my work email address about sport; I won’t read it. You know who you are, lol)

Oh, and our family spent Saturday late morning at Appleberry farm, and that was nice. I reached out to a certain former B5Q contributor to join us, but he was busy with recruiting pieces. I was mildly sad about that. I had a cider brat with apple relish and spicy brown mustard. It was weird but good.

Tyler: I had a good mix of activities. On Friday, I had my fair share of alcoholic beverages and woke up to GameDay before watching much more football than expected. Oh, and I cashed in five of my six bets so I am feeling wonderful.

Ryan: Well, um, actually a pretty nice Saturday, we went to the zoo, went to Costco, Target, picked up some diapers, you know stuff like that. We wanted to get some Culvers, I didn’t know, I didn’t know if there would be time…there was.

On Sunday I played in a golf outing for my golf league and watched the Packers game. Caught the tail end of the Brewer game and got to see Braunie hit a grand slam, to put the Brewers up.

Which game had the funniest/most shocking outcome this weekend?

Belz: That Iowa State / Iowa ending with the muffed punt return takes the cake. The game had it all. Multiple weather delays. Back and forth low scoring. All to end on two Iowa State players running into each other and giving away a last opportunity to score a field goal and win.

Bob: I was all about the Michigan State loss. I don’t like that school and the schadenfreude was very gratifying.

Tyler: I really loved the Iowa/Iowa State game. It was just a weird few hours but ended up being a pretty good game. Eastern Michigan/Illinois was actually one of the more fun games of the weekend too.

Ryan: The Michigan State loss and seeing Michigan drop a spot in the rankings, while we moved up a spot, even though both of us are on a bye.

What TV show have you been enjoying recently and why?

Belz: My wife and I recently finished the second season of Mindhunter on Netflix. Serial killers are neat.

Bob: I’m going to get some hate for this, but I haven’t been. Someone is going to tweet at me “I have been looking for a good show but Bob didn’t have any suggestions; my life is ruined.”

Tyler: Uhh football duh. But since I don’t have Tuesday or Wednesday MACtion yet, I have been filling that time with Euphoria on HBO. Parental advisory though if you do decide to watch, want you to know what you’re getting into.

Ryan: Brooklyn Nine-Nine. (Editor’s note: NINE NINE!) I don’t think I really need to explain myself, because it is an amazing show. The cast is phenomenal and each plays their part to perfection. It’s also the best show about police officers in existence.

What are you most excited about for Michigan Week?

Belz: The big game atmosphere at Camp Randall. There is always an extra little buzz with a blue-blood in town. I also enjoy having a reason to drink beer at 10 o’clock in the morning.

Bob: I think we know where Michigan’s ceiling is, but I have no idea how good Wisconsin can be. This matchup will give us a good idea.

Tyler: I am excited to get back to the Camp for a meaningful game. Sorry CMU, I was out of there early. It will be such a different atmosphere this weekend.

Ryan: I am looking forward to seeing what Wisconsin can do against a Big Ten opponent. Michigan limped into the bye week, while Wisconsin steamrolled CMU, heading into theirs. Also, like Belz said, the big game atmosphere at Camp Randall is unlike any other.

Drink any good beers this weekend?

Belz: Fall is the best. I was able to drink a lot of Oktoberfest beers this weekend. Vintage Brewing Company and Ale Asylum both had solid Oktoberfests, but I would say I liked Full Mile Brewing’s the most. Best beer of the weekend though goes to the Voodoo Ranger Atomic Pumpkin from New Belgium, I love pumpkin beers.

Bob: Nope. Had a homemade margarita which was good.

Tyler: By my definition, yes. By Drew’s definition, no. You can guess what I had a couple of.

Ryan: Hey! Me too, Tyler. I had a couple of speckled holstein’s during the Packer game. I also had a Summer Shandy, while on the golf course.
