Badgers add Ross Gengler to Class of 2020

Wisconsin football continues to do well in recruiting, landing preferred walk-on Ross Gengler

It’s been a busy few days for the Badgers on the recruiting trail as Wisconsin landed cornerback Max Lofy on Monday, and now today lands linebacker Ross Gengler as a preferred walk-on.

Gengler is an insider linebacker from Delavan-Darien High School (Delavan) located in southeast Wisconsin. Standing at 6’3” Gengler possesses good size for a high school recruit. Gengler held multiple offers from FCS and Division II schools such as Valparaiso, Winona State, and Bemidji State but opted to take his chances as a preferred walk-on with the Badgers.

In his junior season Hudl tape Gengler shows a lot of potential to be a solid backer at the next level. At 6’3” 208 pounds Gengler has great size and speed to produce a high quality pass rush. If you couple that with his length to knock down opponents passes Gengler could be a good edge rusher for the Badgers in the future, while Rivals lists him as an inside linebacker currently. According to his tape, he finished his junior season with 108 tackles and 11 tackles for loss and was named to Southern Lakes All-Conference team.

Gengler is the fourth walk-on that has committed to Wisconsin in the 2020 cycle joining Jack Van Dyke, Sean Timmis and Duncan McKinley. The class total now sits at 16 total players with 12 scholarship athletes and four walk-ons committed.
