According to the Wisconsin State Journal’s Jason Galloway on Saturday night, the Chicago Bears invited former Wisconsin Badgers running back Chris James to its minicamp—this according to James’ agent, Jeff Jankovich.
On Saturday, Wisconsin also tweeted congratulations to James for the opportunity with the NFC North franchise.
After transferring from Pitt and sitting out the 2016 season due to NCAA rules, James played 18 games for Wisconsin in 2017 and 2018—participating in nine contests each year. The emergence of future Doak Walker Award winner Jonathan Taylor became one factor that limited James’ impact in the stats book during his time in Madison.
He finished his time at Wisconsin gaining 341 yards on 74 carries with a touchdown. Last season, he ran the ball just 23 times for 108 yards in nine games.
After his Wisconsin career, James participated in UW’s pro day in March, running a 4.58-second 40-yard dash and bench pressing 225 pounds 19 times.
