It is that time, folks. Selection Sunday is here.
The NCAA Tournament starts this week, with the selection show starting at 5 p.m. CT. B5Q will be down at the Kohl Center later today to talk with head coach Greg Gard and some selected players about where and whom the Wisconsin Badgers (23-10) will be playing coming up on either Thursday or Friday.
For now and as seen below, Wisconsin projects to be a No. 4 or No. 5 seed in one of the regions. B5Q will update the projections below and add more from what we see during the day.
ESPN (Joe Lunardi): No. 4 seed in Midwest
The longtime ESPN bracketology expert has the Badgers playing Vermont in San Jose to start the tournament. The top four in that region for Lunardi include North Carolina (No. 1), Michigan State (No. 2), Houston (No. 3) and UW. Kansas State looms a No. 5 and potential round of 32 matchup.
*Lunardi updated his projected bracket as of Sunday, March 17
CBS (Jerry Palm): No. 5 seed in Midwest
Palm now predicts Wisconsin to be a No. 5 seed, rather than a No. 4 seed, in the Midwest region playing in Salt Lake City against a No. 12 seed New Mexico State to start things off. He projects North Carolina (No. 1), Michigan State (No. 2), LSU (No. 3) and Texas Tech (No. 4) as the top four in the region.
*CBS and Palm have their predictions updated as of Sunday morning, March 17
Sports Illustrated (Michael Beller): No. 4 seed in South
Beller picks the Badgers to face No. 13 seed Northeastern. Though he doesn’t confirm the site, he has Virginia (No. 1), Kentucky (No. 2), Houston (No. 3) and Wisconsin as the top four in the South region.
*SI and Beller updated the bracket as of Sunday morning, March 17 (1 a.m. CT)
USA TODAY (Shelby Mast and Scott Gleeson): No. 4 seed in Midwest
USA TODAY Sports predicts Wisconsin to face No. 13 seed Vermont in its tournament opener in San Jose. North Carolina, Tennessee, Houston and UW round out the top four in this projection, with Mississippi State being the No. 5 seed in that region.
*USA TODAY’s projected tournament brackets are as of March 16
NCAA.com (Andy Katz): No. 5 seed in Midwest
The veteran journalist gives his picks, and he picks Wisconsin to face No. 12 St. Mary’s in the Midwest region. The Tar Heels, Vols, Cougars and Kansas State Wildcats round out Katz’s top four in the Midwest region.
*Katz’s brackets are as of Sunday morning, March 17
The Athletic (Brian Bennett): No. 4 seed in West
Bennett projects the Badgers against No. 13 seed UC-Irvine in San Jose to start the tournament. Tennessee (No. 1), Gonzaga (No. 2), Texas Tech (No. 3) and UW round out the top four in the West region.
*Bennett’s article was published as of March 16
