With Early Signing Day marking the first three days (December 18 - December 20) that 2020 high school prospects can officially sign their letter of intent, the Wisconsin Badgers look primed to bring in another strong class filled with exciting players.
The perception of excitement comes from the high status of the prospects committed, and their collective rankings across the various recruiting sites (247 Sports, Rivals, ESPN).
The rankings will undoubtedly change over the course of time, especially before the conclusion of National Signing Day on Feb. 6, when the remaining prospects will sign on the dotted line.
In the meantime, here is the key information about Wisconsin’s 2020 recruiting class according to the three main recruiting services.
247 Composite:
- No. 26 in that nation (No. 29 in 2019)
- No. 5 in the B1G (No. 6 in 2019)
- Four four-star prospects committed (offensive linemen Trey Wedig and Jack Nelson, outside linebacker Kaden Johnson, outside linebacker Nick Herbig)
- Four Top 247 players (Wedig at No. 70, Nelson at No. 148, Johnson at 162, Herbig at 187)
- 15 three-star commitments
- Average class rating of .8716 (high three-star)
Rivals:
- No. 32 in the nation (No. 27 in 2019)
- No. 8 in the B1G (No. 6 in 2019)
- One Rivals Top 100 player in offensive lineman Trey Wedig (No. 88 overall)
- Four four-star prospects committed (offensive linemen Trey Wedig and Jack Nelson, outside linebackers Nick Herbig and Kaden Johnson)
- 13 three-star commitments
- Two two-star commits
- Average star rating: 3.11 (No. 26 in the nation)
ESPN:
- No. 26 in the nation (No. 29 in 2019)
- No. 5 in the B1G (No. 7 in 2019)
- Four ESPN Top 300 players (offensive lineman Trey Wedig at No. 56, offensive lineman Jack Nelson at No. 146, outside linebacker Kaden Johnson at No. 234, outside linebacker Nick Herbig at No. 263)
- Four four-star prospects committed (Wedig, Nelson, Herbig, Johnson)
- 13 three-star commitments
- One two-star commitments (Tanor Bortolini)
- One player unranked (Devin Chandler)
With all of the committed prospects signing on the dotted line today, Wisconsin has a shortened wishlist remaining for National Signing Day in February.
The Badgers will continue to hunt for a running back to fill one of the last remaining spots in the class for next season. Both four-star tailbacks Kevontre Bradford and Jalen Berger appear to be the players most coveted by the staff, and they would ultimately tilt a lot of these rankings and numbers in a major way if they chose to commit.
Another class coming up roses for Paul Chryst.
