B5Q Blogopean Union: the volleyball team swept Nebraska right into a trash can

Plus: the wrestling Badgers beat a ranked opponent; Alicia Monson is really fast; and the women’s soccer team’s season comes to an end in the Sweet 16

Good morning! This is going to be a daily(ish) post that discusses the goings on of the rest of the Big Ten Conference, and the country as needed. Much like the European Union, the Big Ten is a loosely confederated group of entities that sometimes have the same goals (like free movement of people between countries or not winning national titles in football or basketball) and sometimes accept new members that they later regret (Estonia or Rutgers).

We hope that you will use this post to comment on things happening around the conference and also as a sort of daily open thread to discuss breaking news or argue about Spotted Cow.

  • The Badgers lost to UCLA, 2-0, in the Sweet 16 on Sunday night in Los Angeles.

A tough end to a fantastic season. This year’s senior class has laid the groundwork for great things in the future.

  • At least Dani Rhodes was happy before the game!
  • Still not 100% sure how Rhodes scored this goal, but I will be watching this replay a dozen more times.
  • The men’s hoops team is in New York...City! The Legends Classic tips off tonight and we’ll have a Q&A with Mid-Major Madness about the Richmond game coming later today as well as our regular game thread/preview.
  • The volleyball team has played six sets against Nebraska this year. How many sets do you think the Huskers won?
  • I’m going to need someone to make one HELL of a retrospective of Jonathan Taylor’s career once he declares for the NFL Draft in a few months. These runs are so amazing.
  • The Badger grapplers faced their first ranked opponent of the season and passed the test with flying colors.

Penn State on the other hand? Not quite as lucky.

  • Whoever is making that Taylor retrospective should probably throw this one in there too. Just for fun.
  • Alicia Monson is really fast.
  • It’s actually spelled Threeto Brown. Common mistake.
  • The goalie change helped a bit, as the Badgers tied the Gophers on Saturday night and got the extra point in the conference standings by winning the shootout, but there are much larger problems with the defense than just a goalie switch.
  • The women’s hockey team took care of business over the weekend and now heads to Nashville for next weekend’s mini-tournament with some Boston teams.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE CAN WE HAVE BIELEMA AT RUTGERS!
