Recruiting is the lifeblood of any major college athletics team, but following it closely as a fan can sometimes be difficult and can often be time consuming. We’ll try and condense all the recruiting news you can use into this bi-weekly post. It’ll include updates on current commits as well as news on players the Badgers are still pursuing. Let’s get down to business!

Here are some updates around current Badger football commits and other recruits!

All-America game participants

  • Joining Nelson in San Antonio will be fellow OL and 4-star 2020 recruit, Trey Wedig. The Wales native received his jersey for the All-American Bowl earlier this week.

Wedig is also an All-American in alluring photos for the ladies.

Basketball recruiting updates

  • I forgot to mention this in our post earlier this week that listed all of the visitors for the Michigan State game, but preferred walk-on Carter Gilmore took his official visit to Madison over the weekend.

It’s always nice to see parents so proud of their kids for accomplishing their goals.

  • I love when current commits are recruiting potential commits. That’s how you know they like the program already. The Iowa game will be another big one for the basketball team as 2021 4-star SG (No. 153 in the nation by the 247 Composite) Julian Roper and 2022 G JaVaughn Hannah will be in Madison.

Both players hail from Michigan, and it is definitely worth noting that 247 Wisconsin analyst Evan Flood put in a Crystal Ball for Roper to the Badgers earlier this week. He’ll probably be on ‘CROOTIN CANNON FIRING WATCH that weekend.

Roper has offers from Ohio State, Mizzou, Northwestern, Illinois, Iowa and others. Notably, he does not have an offer from either Michigan or Michigan State.

Football visits

  • I enjoy reading way too much into high schoolers’ Twitter accounts and I’ve noted that 4-star LB Kaden Johnson did NOT tweet something like this out after he visited Madison a few weeks ago.

No one seems to know where Johnson is going to end up but my hunch, sadly, is that if he wanted to be a Badger he’d be one by now. Hopefully I’m wrong!

  • In more promising 2020 football recruiting news, Len’Neth Whithead of Athens, Ga. will be in Madison for the Iowa game on an official visit according to Rivals.

Wisconsin is recruiting him as a RB while most other schools have him pegged as a LB, so hopefully he sees Jonathan Taylor run for 250 yards against he Hawkeyes.
