Recruiting is the lifeblood of any major college athletics team, but following it closely as a fan can sometimes be difficult and can often be time consuming. We’ll try and condense all the recruiting news you can use into this bi-weekly post. It’ll include updates on current commits as well as news on players the Badgers are still pursuing. Let’s get down to business!
Here are some updates around current Badger football commits and other recruits!
All-America game participants
- 2020 4-star OL Jack Nelson is going to the All-American Bowl. This is a very big honor for the Stoughton native.
Another Badger is joining us in San Antonio.

Congrats to @JackNelson755 on being recognized as a High School All-American and getting to play in the All-American game on January 4th!

Jack will be presented his jersey for the game on Wednesday at the high school. What a great honor for a great kid!
- Joining Nelson in San Antonio will be fellow OL and 4-star 2020 recruit, Trey Wedig. The Wales native received his jersey for the All-American Bowl earlier this week.

Wedig is also an All-American in alluring photos for the ladies.
Basketball recruiting updates
- I forgot to mention this in our post earlier this week that listed all of the visitors for the Michigan State game, but preferred walk-on Carter Gilmore took his official visit to Madison over the weekend.
Have watched a lot of Badger basketball games-pretty great to see Carter in a Badger uniform on his official visit. Great trainers, coaches, teammates and families along this journey and have great appreciation and respect for all the coaches who recruited him. #feelingblessed pic.twitter.com/dc0GyXFdQD

It’s always nice to see parents so proud of their kids for accomplishing their goals.
- I love when current commits are recruiting potential commits. That’s how you know they like the program already. The Iowa game will be another big one for the basketball team as 2021 4-star SG (No. 153 in the nation by the 247 Composite) Julian Roper and 2022 G JaVaughn Hannah will be in Madison.
Might as well make it happen then ♂️ @JuBuckets0 #OnWisconsin https://t.co/C5wh1Ljp4A

Both players hail from Michigan, and it is definitely worth noting that 247 Wisconsin analyst Evan Flood put in a Crystal Ball for Roper to the Badgers earlier this week. He’ll probably be on ‘CROOTIN CANNON FIRING WATCH that weekend.
Roper has offers from Ohio State, Mizzou, Northwestern, Illinois, Iowa and others. Notably, he does not have an offer from either Michigan or Michigan State.
Football visits
- I enjoy reading way too much into high schoolers’ Twitter accounts and I’ve noted that 4-star LB Kaden Johnson did NOT tweet something like this out after he visited Madison a few weeks ago.
Great official visit this past weekend! I would like to thank the Oregon state staff for having me and my family!⚫️ pic.twitter.com/lWhfm7zFiT

No one seems to know where Johnson is going to end up but my hunch, sadly, is that if he wanted to be a Badger he’d be one by now. Hopefully I’m wrong!
- In more promising 2020 football recruiting news, Len’Neth Whithead of Athens, Ga. will be in Madison for the Iowa game on an official visit according to Rivals.
According to a source, #Wisconsin is expected to host 2020 RB Len’Neth Whitehead for an official visit when the #Badgers play Iowa. https://t.co/QtucgOGDPU @ChadSimmons_

Wisconsin is recruiting him as a RB while most other schools have him pegged as a LB, so hopefully he sees Jonathan Taylor run for 250 yards against he Hawkeyes.
