Wisconsin added to its 2019 recruiting class on Saturday as Bellflower, Calif. (St. John Bosco) outside linebacker Spencer Lytle verbally committed to UW via Twitter.
Lytle is rated a high three-star recruit by 247Sports, ESPN, and Rivals, with the 247Sports composite rankings designating him as the No. 28 outside linebacker in the nation. He also was recently named to the 2018 Butkus Award high school watch list.
Rivals notes 42 offers for Lytle, who told B5Q back in June that both Wisconsin and Clemson were his top schools. Lytle took an official visit to Wisconsin the weekend of June 8, then traveled to Clemson for an unofficial visit a couple of days later. While at UW, he joined current class of 2019 commits Graham Mertz, Logan Brown, Hayden Rucci, Keeanu Benton, Joe Tippmann, and Marcus Graham, who were all on their official visits.
According to Lytle, his trip to Madison “confirmed” why he placed Wisconsin among his top schools he is considering.
“Coaches, support staff and players are what stood out the most,” Lytle told B5Q while traveling on Sunday night. “Also, [the] great education, and they always put players into the league [NFL]. Twenty-one winning seasons in the last 22 is matched by very few programs.”
Wisconsin now holds 13 verbal scholarship commitments for 2019 with Lytle joining Mertz, Brown, Rucci, Benton, Tippmann, Graham, running back Julius Davis, athlete Leo Chenal, cornerbacks James Williams and Semar Melvin, athlete Dean Engram (who will also play corner), and defensive lineman Gio Paez.
