2019 Wisconsin commit Graham Mertz claims QB MVP honors at Rivals 3 Stripe Camp event

Quite a showing by the future Badger.

The honors keep rolling in for touted 2019 quarterback Graham Mertz, as he earned quarterback MVP honors at the Rivals 3 Stripe Camp presented by adidas in Columbus, Ohio, on Sunday.

Rated a four-star recruit by 247Sports, Rivals, and ESPN, Mertz has racked up accolades and high interest ever since verbally committing to Wisconsin last fall. They include invites to the U.S. Army National Combine in January, the Elite 11 Finals in late March, and now the MVP honors at the latest Rivals regional event.

Last moth, Clemson and Notre Dame offered Mertz, with even a Crystal Ball projection to the Irish from 247Sports’ Tom Loy.

247Sports’ Evan Flood, however, wrote an article last week on Mertz, saying the quarterback is “still not wavering.” ($).

According to Mertz’s 247Sports profile, he is expected to take his official visit to Wisconsin from June 8–10. Those are also the same planned times as California linebacker Spencer Lytle.

For those wondering where Mertz is ranked nationally:

  • 247Sports (Composite): Four-star; 0.9376 rating; No. 148 player in the country, No. 5 pro-style quarterback; No. 1 player in Kansas
  • 247Sports (Standalone): Four-star; 92 rating; No. 193 player in the country; No. 7 pro-style quarterback; No. 1 player in Kansas
  • ESPN: Four-star; 86 rating; No. 40 player in the country, No. 2 quarterback (pocket passer), No. 10 player in regional; No. 1 player in Kansas
  • Rivals: Four-star; 5.8 rating; No. 243 player in the country, No. 6 pro-style quarterback, No. 2 player in Kansas

[Update, May 7: Updated the article, as Fletcher’s official visit is from June 1-3, not 8-10, as previously mentioned. We apologize for the error.]
