ATH/S John Torchio commits to Wisconsin as preferred walk-on

An intriguing prospect from out west will head to Madison.

There are always bound to be surprise commitments during recruiting season, and this may be the closest the Wisconsin Badgers will get to one for the class of 2018.

Moraga, Ca. (Campolindo) athlete/safety John Torchio announced on Tuesday night that he was committing to Wisconsin via Twitter.

As of Wednesday morning, Wisconsin had not officially announced that it received his signed and faxed National Letter of Intent (NLI).

Torchio is rated a three-star athlete by 247Sports’ standalone rankings and a two-star safety by Rivals.

Both Badger247’s Evan Flood and BadgerBlitz.com’s Jon McNamara reported that the West Coast prospect will walk on at Wisconsin. That’s particularly intriguing considering he received offers from a Pac-12 program in Cal, Air Force, Army, San Jose State, and some Ivy League schools, according to 247Sports.

Listed between 6’1–6’2 and 180–190 pounds depending upon which recruiting service you prefer, Torchio’s senior defensive highlights state he recorded seven interceptions and 98 tackles and three forced fumbles.
