What to expect for Wisconsin during the 2019 Early Signing Period

A primer for what lies ahead this week.

Rucci Family

Tweets and tears, videos and highlights galore will spring forth starting on Wednesday as the class of 2019 National Signing Day’s early signing period kicks off.

From Dec. 19-21, recruits will be able to sign their national letters of intent (NLIs) to the schools they have verbally committed to. If they do not sign their names in ink and send that NLI back to their school, the official National Signing Day takes place on Feb. 6.

Like last year, we expect the bulk of the Wisconsin Badgers’ class to sign during this time in December. There are 19 known verbal commitments (scholarship) for this 2019 class.

Below is just a list of players who publicly confirmed their “signing” ceremonies, though we at B5Q are assuming all of those commits will send in those NLIs to UW midweek.

QB Graham Mertz

Mertz told B5Q he plans to enroll early, so he is just under a month away from heading to Madison. Before that, he will play with fellow Wisconsin commit in the All-American Bowl in early January.

OL Logan Brown

A five-star lineman according to 247Sports composite rankings, Brown told B5Q that he will sign on Wednesday.

OL Joe Tippmann

TE Hayden Rucci

WR Stephan Bracey

RB Julius Davis

TE Clay Cundiff

OLB Spencer Lytle

DL Gio Paez

The following players also confirmed with B5Q that they would also be signing on Wednesday:

  • DL Gio Paez and Keeanu Benton
  • FB Quan Easterling
  • OLB Skyler Meyers
  • CBs James Williams and Semar Melvin
  • ILB Maema Njongmeta
  • S Titus Toler

Again a disclaimer, based on last year’s precedent and this cycle’s players, we are assuming all known commits for this class will sign.

What to expect from B5Q

Great question! You have already seen a few features and a podcast out in the past few days, and we have more episodes, analysis and insights coming your way in the next couple of days.

We have profiles ready of every scholarship commit, and once UW sends out the confirmation of the received NLI welcoming each respective recruit to the program, we will publish them. Expect a roundtable from our writers midday Wednesday, along with discussions on recruiting battles, the Michigan state pipeline continuing this recruiting cycle and of course, an article highlighting the 2019 walk-ons.
