Ethan Happ claims Big Ten Player of the Week honors yet again

BREAKING: He is still good at basketball.

Wisconsin redshirt senior forward Ethan Happ claimed co-Big Ten Player of the Week honors once again on Monday.

This is the fourth time out of five weeks this season that Happ has received either co-Big Ten Player of the Week or named the Player of the Week outright. In his two games last week, Happ averaged 27 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.0 steals per game while shooting 68.4 percent from the field.

Happ shared the award with Purdue guard Carsen Edwards, who averaged 30 points per game and is considered Happ’s top competition for conference player of the year.

Happ is averaging 19.3 points per game, 10.8 rebounds, 4.9 assists, 1.6 blocks and 1.0 steals per game this year. He leads the team in all of those categories except for blocks (Nate Reuvers averages 1.9 blocks per game, thanks largely to the win against Stanford in the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament in the Bahamas where he blocked nine shots). Happ is also 10th in the nation in rebounds and is third in the nation in assists per game for players that aren’t guards. Lastly, Happ is ranked first in KenPom.com’s player of the year ratings. Not just for the Big Ten, but for the whole danged country.

After missing the NCAA Tournament last year and testing the NBA Draft waters, Happ appears to have come back to Madison with a bit of a chip on his shoulder. That chip has proven to be a major problem for every team the Badgers have played and has Wisconsin ranked No. 16 in the country heading into exam/holiday break.

I recommend listening to Wojo on this one, Badgers fans.
