Recruits visiting Wisconsin for Rutgers weekend

Some notable linebackers are in Madison this weekend.

Three-star LB Maema Njongmeta, who was recently offered by Wisconsin.
Matt Fleming

The second-to-last home game of the 2018 season for the Wisconsin Badgers comes on Saturday morning with an early contest against Rutgers.

It will be one of the last times recruits could see live action at Camp Randall Stadium this season, and right now, two projected linebackers will be in Madison on Saturday to take in the gameday atmosphere.

Though the weather conditions will not be what was seen two weekends ago with a four-season spectacular—at least we do not believe that will be the case (hopefully)—here are two prospects to watch on Saturday.

Maema Njongmeta

Now bumped up to a three-star recruit according to 247Sports composite rankings, Njongmeta announced an offer from Wisconsin earlier this week. He confirmed with B5Q on Wednesday night that he will be back in Madison this upcoming weekend for an unofficial visit (something that was reported both by 247Sports ($) and Rivals ($) previously). He also took in Wisconsin in early October for the Nebraska game.

247Sports notes 19 offers for the Lincolnshire, Ill. (Adlai Stevenson) product, including Iowa State, Northern Illinois, Army, Bowling Green, and some Ivy League schools.

Both 247Sports Crystal Ball and Rivals FutureCast predictions show Wisconsin as a clear-cut favorite, so it could be an interesting visit.

J.D. Bertrand

247Sports, ESPN, and Rivals designate the Roswell, Ga. (Blessed Trinity Catholic) standout as a four-star prospect, and 247Sports composite rankings list him as the No. 310 player overall and No. 16 outside linebacker in the nation.

Bertrand originally committed to Georgia but backed off that verbal pledge on Oct. 5. Since then, the ‘backer has received offers from Wisconsin, TCU, Florida State, Colorado, and Ole Miss. He also visited Notre Dame in mid-October.

Rivals notes on its profile of Bertrand that he will officially visit UW this weekend along with reporting it on Friday, while 247Sports also reported it on Oct. 30 ($).

Bertrand hails from the same high school as Wisconsin 2019 target Steele Chambers, who ultimately committed to Ohio State.

A basketball visitor (and scholarship offer) this weekend

BadgerBlitz.com’s Jon McNamara reported on Friday that 2020 point guard Lorne Bowman is on an official visit. For that matter, the Detroit (St. Mary’s) product tweeted that he has received an offer from the Badgers:

Rivals and 247Sports don’t have Bowman, listed at 6’2, 180 pounds, rated at the moment.

More visitors this weekend

  • BadgerBlitz.com’s Jon McNamara reported that three-star outside linebacker and 2019 commit Spencer Lytle will be visiting.
  • Sussex, Wis. (Hamilton) athlete Jackson Kollath, who holds a preferred walk-on offer from Wisconsin, is here:
  • 2019 running back commit Julius Davis told B5Q earlier this week that he would be in town.
