Wisconsin volleyball signs talented class of 2019

The No. 7 Badgers sign four overall on Wednesday.

The No. 7 Wisconsin volleyball program fared well on Wednesday, announcing the additions of four talented players to its already deep roster.

Head coach Kelly Sheffield added athleticism and depth to his squad, signing setter Izzy Ashburn, middle blocker Courtney Gorum, outside hitter Liz Gregorski and libero Anna MacDonald.

This 2019 freshman class is highly decorated, with multiple state champions and three of the four named to the Under Armour All-America First Team.

Setter Izzy Ashburn, Dayton, Minn. (Champlain Park)

  • 6’1 setter; averaged 12.2 assists per set and set school record with 3,858 assists
  • 2018 AVCA Under Armour All-America First Team
  • PrepVolleyball.com No. 38 Senior Ace
  • Two-time first-team all-state in Minnesota
  • 2018 Minnesota State Class AAA champion
  • 2018 Ms. Baden Volleyball
  • Former high school teammate of Badgers setter Sydney Hilley

Middle blocker Courtney Gorum, Chesapeake, Va. (Grassfield High School/Coastal Virginia Volleyball Club)

  • 6’3 middle blocker; Averaged 3.2 kills per set, 1.4 blocks per set for Grassfield as a senior
  • 2018 AVCA Under Armour All-America First Team
  • PrepVolleyball.com No. 50 Senior Ace
  • Two-time all-conference

Outside hitter Liz Gregorski, Appleton, Wis. (Xavier)

  • 5’11 outside hitter; Averaged 3.6 kills per set during high school career
  • Three-time all-state selection in Wisconsin
  • Conference Player of the Year 2016
  • All-tournament player, 2017 USA Volleyball Junior Nationals
  • 2017 Showcase MVP

Libero Anna MacDonald, Alpharette, Ga. (Blessed Trinity High School/TK Volleyball Club)

  • 5’8 libero; averaged 5.9 digs/set for Blessed Trinity in four-year career
  • 2018 AVCA Under Armour All-American First Team
  • 4A Georgia State Player of the Year
  • Georgia state record in digs
  • Two-time state champion
  • Four-time all-state
  • Team captain of 2018 USA Volleyball Junior A-1 National Team
  • Sister of former Wisconsin player Amber MacDonald
