Head coach Paul Chryst and his coaching staff received good news this weekend, as 2019 tight end Clay Cundiff flipped his verbal commitment from Kansas to the Wisconsin Badgers.
Cundiff announced his decision via social media on Sunday evening.
247Sports, ESPN, and Rivals all designate the Wichita, Kan. (Bishop Carroll) native as a three-star recruit. This weekend, he made the trip to Madison and officially visited Wisconsin as he took in the Badgers’ 41–24 win against Nebraska.
The Kansas product initially committed to the Jayhawks back in late June.
There is a connection between Cundiff and Wisconsin four-star quarterback commit Graham Mertz, as they played on the same 7-on-7 team:
Visiting Madison today, so we should know soon. Kid is a stud that has caught a lot of passes from #Badgers QB commit Graham Mertz. They were teammates with Epic 7 Midwest.

Cundiff is the second tight end and the No. 14 scholarship verbal commit for Wisconsin’s 2019 class. He joins a group of players that includes Leo Chenal and Marcus Graham; Mertz; offensive linemen Logan Brown and Joe Tippmann; running back Julius Davis; fellow tight end Hayden Rucci; cornerbacks Semar Melvin, Dean Engram, and James Williams; defensive linemen Keeanu Benton and Gio Paez; and outside linebacker Spencer Lytle.
Many congratulated their newest future teammate:
