Wisconsin football recruiting: Badgers offer 2019 DT Joshua Harris, 2020 QB Max Johnson

Recruiting season never stops.

It may be quiet on the football front for the Wisconsin Badgers as winter conditioning began on Monday, but that does not mean recruiting season stops.

Roxboro, N.C. (Person) defensive tackle Joshua Harris tweeted on Monday that he was offered by the Wisconsin coaching staff.

Harris, rated a three-star recruit by 247Sports and Rivals, was also offered by Notre Dame. He has also tweeted offers from the likes of N.C. State, Duke, Penn State, and Tennessee, with 247Sports also noting the standout lineman holds offers from Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, and Virginia Tech.

As you can see from the tweet below, Harris’s junior campaign was impressive. Listed at 6’5, 295 pounds on his Hudl profile, he also received praise from Rivals as one of the U.S. Army All-American Combine performers earlier this month.

His Hudl film backs up that positive feedback, as his junior highlights show a dominant lineman whose strength overwhelmed opposing offensive linemen.

Wisconsin currently holds a verbal commit for a 2019 quarterback—a very good one—in four-star Kansas native Graham Mertz (who recently received offers from Ohio State and Ole Miss).

It appears newly minted quarterbacks coach Jon Budmayr already has his eyes set to 2020, as Watkinsville, Ga. (Oconee County) recruit Max Johnson tweeted on Monday that he received an offer from Wisconsin.

Listed as a four-star prospect at 6’3.5”, 191 pounds according to 247Sports, Johnson is the son of former Super Bowl-winning quarterback Brad Johnson.

Major programs are already interested in Johnson, who according to 247Sports holds offers from Power Five teams like Florida State, Miami, Georgia, LSU, and North Carolina, among others.

As seen in his sophomore film and throwing highlights, the southpaw already displays a talented arm with apparent accuracy that gets to his receiving targets. How Wisconsin tries to get into the mix for the 2020 quarterback will be interesting to see.
